In the spread called "The New Ways of Layering", she and fellow model Linda Tonge showed readers how to layer furs, jackets, vests and coats in order to achieve the luxurious look of the season. Earth tones accented with soft blues and rose, a mix of lengths and textures was what it was all about.

Shelley wore a Mohair Coat Over A Suede Blazer look which was a double-breasted coat over a single-breasted blazer, both worn over a cowl-neck pullover worh over a striped shirt and a front-panel skirt - all by Donna Karan and Louis Dell'Olio for Anne Klein & Co. Matching boots, tote and woven leather belt finished her look. Shelley looked sensational.

First Episode Blues

When Shelley began filming her first episode for Charlie's Angels, "Love Boat Angels", many unfortunate incidents plagued the set. In fact, the cast and crew's plane trip to St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands wasn't smooth. They encountered plane problems, bad weather, a strike, missing luggage and really bad sunburn. "I didn't realize it was going to be this hard," Shelley was quoted saying, "Nevertheless I'm not going to let this put me off wanting to be an Angel." She was determined to make a success out of her new opportunity.

Shelley appeared on the pages of Woman's Day, the July 1971 issue. In the spread called "Piggybank Boutique", quick easy amusing and inexpensive ways to personalize any wardrobe was featured. It showed readers ways to individualize store-bough play clothes and make it their own. Shelley modeled a yellow crop-top and navy shorts that were knit with a washable sport yarn. She accessorized it with a straw hat decorated with metal studs. Matching tights and footwear finished her outfit. Shelley looked fab.

1979 Guest Appearance

Shelley appeared on the The Merv Griffin Show in October of 1979. She was Charlie's newest Angel and fans were eager to get to know Charlie's newest recruit. The other guests that night were researcher Durk Pearson, Dr. Richard Selzer and acupuncturist Dr. Zion Yu. Shelley had been to the show earlier that year in January, before she was cast in the hit series.

The World Belongs To Charlie

Shelley was THE Charlie Girl from 1976 to 1982 and was the one responsible for catapulting the brand (and, in turn, herself as well) to iconic status. By 1978, Charlie was the best selling brand of its genre in the world. So much so that the tagline "Now the world belongs to Charlie" was added in the print ad and Shelley was filmed and photographed striding her famous stride all over the world. Shelley had become a Superstar Model, a  Supermodel.

Short Run

Shelley starred in her second TV series Cutter to Houston in 1983. She along with co-stars Alec Baldwin and Jim Metzler played doctors operating a small clinic in the fictional town of Cutter which was just outside Houston, Texas. The series had a short run despite having good scripts and interesting story lines. Sleeper hits weren't heard of yet when it was aired.

Mix-Em-Up

Shelley appeared on many spreads throughout Sears Fall and Winter 1972 catalog. In the spread called "Mix-Em-Up Knits of Acrilan Acrylic", she modeled pieces that were guaranteed to give normal wear for one full year or your money back or free replacement (whichever is preferred). She wore a black pullover-style Turtleneck Sweater over a multi-colored swirl patterned Wrap-Skirt with heart-shaped buttons on the waistband. A vest in the same multi-colored swirl pattern and heart-shaped button front closing went over her sweater. Matching hose and footwear finished her look. Shelley looked super in her ensemble.

Shelley wore Layers of Stripes & Checks, a big-cut blazer with muted stripes over a checkered blazer worn over with a ruffled shirt and narrow corduroy pants - all by Basile. A scarf around her neck finished her look.

Shelley also wore Layers of Wool & Cotton, a western shirt over a dirndl skirt topped with a cable-knit vest then again topped with a tweed jacket and a longer drawstring jacket - all by Bill Kaiserman for Rafael. A woven leather belt finished her look. And Shelley looked sensational in both outfits.

Leading Lady Role

Shelley's first leading lady role was Jennifer Corly in the 1978 feature film If Ever I See You Again. The film wasn't a box office success but its theme song went to the top of the charts. It was interpreted by Roberta Flack and has since been considered one of the great classic love songs from the era.

Seventeen Model

Shelley appeared on the cover and pages of Seventeen magazine's November 1971 issue. She had been appearing on the magazine since 1964, when she debuted as a model. Shelley was discovered by the heir to the A&P supermarket fortune Huntington Hartford at a debutante ball and, after some convincing from him and her mother Patricia (a former model herself), she agreed to give modeling a try. She and her mom went to New York to meet with Eileen Ford (Pat's friend) and the rest is history.

Shelley along with her daughter Devon Rose attended the 4th Annual Earth Day Walk-A-Thon in 1993. It was held at Universal Studios in Universal City, California and was to benefit Environment Charities. Other celebrities in attendance were Danica McKellar from The Wonder Years, Dale Midkiff from Pet Cemetery and Khrystyne Haje from Head of the Class.

THE Charlie Girl

Shelley was THE Charlie Girl from 1976 to 1982 and was the one responsible for catapulting the brand (and, in turn, herself) to iconic status. In 1977, Charlie came up with a new way to apply the fragrance. The "Touch Tip" allowed users to apply the fragrance by rolling it onto the skin. It left no drop of Charlie to waste and came in a small spill-proof cylinder that easily fit any handbag. So fans could get  touch of Charlie anywhere, anytime.

Shelley Hack is 5'8" in Height

Shelley mentioned how tall she is (5' 8") in the Love Boat episode

"Dumb Luck/Tres Amigos/Hey, Jealous Lover", 1980

Shelley's height has been erroneously written down as 5' 7" in many sites throughout the net. But Shelley's height has always been 5' 8". In articles written about her prior to her casting on Charlie's Angels, it had always been 5' 8". In fact, she mentioned it on the Love Boat episode "Dumb Luck/Tres Amigos/Hey, Jealous Lover". She played Professor Carol Ketay, the genius nuclear physicist friend of Julie McCoy (played by Lauren Tewes) who Julie advised to play dumb so she could catch a man. Their plan worked and Carol met a guy she really liked and who liked her back but felt he had to break up with her because she was, well, too dumb. In the scene where the two friends were having dinner, discussing how their plan backfired, the dialogue went this way:

Julie: Okay, you proposed to him but he turned you down?

Carol: Well, I mean, I didn't get down on one knee and ask for his hand in marriage, but the message had to be perfectly clear.

Julie: Well, did he tell you why?

Carol: Are you ready for this? It is because I, Professor Carol Katey, 5' 8", summa cum laude, Carnegie Fellow, Rhodes scholar... I am too dumb.

In the 1993 pilot episode of the Steven Spielberg produced TV series SeaQuest DSV, "To Be Or Not To Be", Shelley played villain Capt. Marilyn Stark, the former captain of SeaQuest, DSV (deep-submergence vehicle). In the scene where Nathan and the crew were discussing the root of the problems they were having with SeaQuest's computer system, Stark's name came up and her statistics appeared on a screen behind them. It reads as:

Shelley was one of the Supermodels of the 1970s and was as tall as most of the models who were in demand at the time, like Rene Russo and Rosie Vela. She was one of the tallest of the women who was cast in Charlie's Angels; but like Jaclyn Smith, she preferred medium-heeled footwear. Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, Cheryl Ladd and Tanya Roberts, however, preferred platforms and higher heels. The Angels heights are as follows:

Shelley appeared on a spread for Beeline Spring and Summer 1971 catalog. In the spread called "Lounge and Dream", she modeled a soft mauve Sleep Tunic and Pants ensemble in slinky soft nylon tricot. The top had a V plunge in the front and back and a drawstring that created a flattering empire line. The pants had an elasticized waist. Shelley looked positively dreamy in her ensemble.

For starters, Shelley wore The Lamb-Trimmed Fox Jacket by Fendi over a wool fisherman's sweater and striped jean-cut pants - both by Fendi as well.

Shelley also wore The Ribbed Beaver Jacket with a detachable hooded cowl by Anne Klein for Michael Forrest over a striped sweater and a wool crepe skirt by Donna Karan and Louis Dell'Olio for Anne Klein & Co. Shelley looked sensational in both.

One of the Best Episodes

an episode from the 6th season  of Tales from the Crypt, 1993

Shelley starred in an episode of Tales from the Crypt in 1993 during the series 6th season. It was called "The Assassin" and it has been considered one of the best episodes of the series because of its witty script and its unexpected ending. Shelley played Janet McKay, the wife of a government assassin who was at large, was finally tracked down and  was going to be eliminated. Shelley gave a fine performance in this must-see episode, which is currently available on DVD.

Shelley appeared on the front and back cover as well as inside McCall's patterns catalog in August of 1971. On the back cover she wore pattern number 2800, a pattern design for super short shorts, hot pants or what came to be known as Daisy Dukes. Shelley wore a blue and white version on the cover. A scoop-necked top with heart-shaped appliques finished her look. Take note, Shelley's hair was parted on the other side for the pic.

Shelley started going out with director/producer Harry Winer in the around the mid-1980s. They were caught by the paparazzi together in many events until their eventual union in 1990. Harry and Shelley have a daughter Devon Rose, a 2013 graduate of Columbia University holding a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Sustainable Development. Shelley and Harry must be very proud of her.

Shelley appeared on several spreads throughout Sears Fall/Winter/1975 catalog. In the spread called "Our Two-Piece Wear-Dated Dresses", she modeled the Hooded 2-piece Dress in dusty rose. It was made up of a long-sleeve hooded top with a button opening and a gored skirt with an elasticized waist. It was a wear-dated dress, so it was guaranteed to give normal wear for a year. Burgundy sandals finished her look.

Shelley and David

Shelley once sat down for a talk with David Frost, the renowned English journalist who became famous for interviewing political figures, among them Richard Nixon whom he interviewed in 1977 - post resignation (which was the basis of the 2006 play Frost/Nixon and became a feature film in 2008). It was probably aired as part of Headliners with David Frost, a six-week miniseries which was aired in 1978. Other guests, it seems, included Truman Capote, John Travolta and ex-CIA director Richard Helms.

Shelley appeared in spread throughout Penneys spring and summer catalog in 1967. In one spread, she modeled a sweet pastel-colored floral shift dress with white lace collars and insets, ribbon accents and bishop sleeves. She wore white low heeled footwear and her hair was gathered and ponytailed to the side, held with in place with a matching ribbon. Shelley looked young, sweet and fresh in her lovely dress.

Bobbie Brooks Supermodel

Shelley had reached the pinnacle of modeling and was considered a Supermodel by the mid 1970s. She was one of the the well-known models of the era; and by 1978, she was so familiar to the public that her name would appear on some ads, such as a set of ads for Bobbie Brooks. Shelley had appeared in many of their ad campaigns; and in 1978, her name appeared a set of ads the company ran at that time. Other models that were featured and named in the ad campaign were Cheryl Tiegs, Maud Adams, Deborah Raffin, Suzanne Somers and Jessica Lange.

Political Angel

Shelley was featured in the French mag Ici Paris back in October 2016. The mag looked back at some beloved past TV series like Little House on the Prairie, Santa Barbara, Dallas, Dynasty and, of course, Charlie's Angels. All the Angels were featured; and this is what the mag said about Shelley.

The Most Political (Angel), Shelley Hack (1m 71)

At the end of the '80s, the actress played against type by appearing in numerous thriller and horror flicks. In the '90s, she embarked in politics and joined the Democratic Party. She became a member of the O.N.U. Meanwhile, she created SHMC, a company that helped spread independent media in post-conflict countries. In 2010, she and her husband since 1990, Harry Winer, put up the production company Smash Media. At 60, she's also still beautiful.

Trackdown 1983

In 1983, Shelley co-starred in the TV movie Trackdown: Finding the Goodbar Killer with George Segal, who played Detective John Grafton, a New York City detective looking for a the murderer of a schoolteacher who happened to be a good friend of Logan Gay, the character played by Shelley. After a bumpy first meeting, Logan eventually becomes Graftons' love interest. George Segal and Shelley would eventually work together again in 1992, in the feature film Me Myself and I.

In one spread, she modeled the "Give Her Elegance" outfit, a gold sleeve-free floor length gown with delicate embroidery accents on the bodice. It came with a matching coat that that had delicate embroidery accents as well. It was the perfect gift for any woman.

Shelley's Charlie Girl image had a huge impact on women when it first came out. It came out in the midst of the women's movement and THE Charlie Girl's independent and fabulous lifestyle was something women aspired to at the time. The norm then was that women needed men in order to be fulfilled. Women needed to attract a man, marry a man, have kids with a man in order to be fulfilled. But Shelley's Charlie Girl didn't need a man. She was independent, was happy about it and was utterly fabulous and fulfilled on her own. She could go out alone at night (no escort? a big no-no at the time), drive herself anywhere and just own any room she entered. It was such a powerful message that even a young Oprah Winfrey aspired to become a Charlie Girl herself. So much so, that in January of 2008, she featured Shelley on her show and had a chat with her about being a Charlie Girl.

In one spread, she modeled a red, white and blue nautical-inspired dress with gold button accents that was perfect for any daytime event. A pair of white sandal pumps finished her look. When Shelley became a Charlie's Angel in 1979, she became an instant celebrity. Suddenly, everyone was interested in everything about her. She appeared in countless magazines and newspapers worldwide and was even mentioned in the evening news worldwide. Shelley was surprised by the amount of attention her casting generated and was worried she might not be able to live up to the all the advanced publicity. But nevertheless went on and gave Angels her best shot.
