In 1979, when Shelley became a Charlie's Angel, she was dating award-winning writer/director Nicholas (The Seven-Per-Cent Solution) Meyer. The two had been dating for a short while (and Shelley was already the famous Revlon Charlie Girl/Supermodel); and, in fact, Meyer wanted to cast Shelley as the leading lady in his upcoming film Time After Time. But Shelley declined the role, explaining, "After all, our relationship just started - what if we broke up in two months? He would have to be stuck directing me." Shelley settled for a much smaller "voice over" (docent) role in the film instead (the leading lady role eventually went to Mary Steenburgen). Shelley and Nicholas were spotted at a little Hollywood bar called Ports, a sort of writer's hangout, when Shelley's Angel casting was finalized. And shortly after that, they broke up.
