Thirty years after it's original theatrical release, The King of Comedy is now available in Blu-ray format. Aside from the main feature, deleted/extended scenes and trailers, it also includes the featurettes "Closing Night at the Tribeca Film Festival: A Conversation with Martin Scorsese and Robert DeNiro and Jerry Lewis" and "A Shot at the Top: The Making of The King of Comedy." The site Blur-rayDefinition.com (many thanks to this site) reviewed the film and said, "The King of Comedy will suck viewers in from the beginning and hold them tight until the end." It also said that the film is "highly recommended."
Shelley Hack in a scene with Robert De Niro
from The King of Comedy
Directed by Martin Scorsese, The King of Comedy captured great performances from Robert De Niro and Jerry Lewis. Supporting cast members Sandra Bernhard and Shelley Hack also turned in excellent performances. Although the film didn't make box-office gold at the time of its release, it has since received a cult following among movie aficionados. With its story being so relevant today (it dealt with the "I-will-do-anything-to-become-a-star syndrome") the film is better understood now than it was at the time of its release. It's really a great piece of work. Watch it.
