Shelley in the Glamour Shopping Guide page of Glamour mag, 1964
Shelley's first modeling assignment was for Glamour magazine in 1964. She appeared on the cover and the pages of the mag's November issue that year. She was discovered by millionaire/publisher Huntington Hartford at a debutante ball where he urged her to try modeling. He eventually talked to her father, telling him Shelley was "the new face." In September of 1964, she appeared in Hartford's magazine Show, in a photo spread that caught the eye of Eileen Ford of Ford Models Inc. She went to New York (with her mother Patricia, a former model herself and an acquaintance of Ford) met with the model agent and signed on. From there, she became one of the most successful Ford models in history.
