a 1983 fictional parody of Dynasty
Nighttime soaps were all the rage in the 1980s - Dallas, Knots Landing, Falcon Crest, Flamingo Road... just to name a few. But the most over-the-top of them all had to be Dynasty. It's starred some of the biggest names in show business, past and present. And with it's sets, fashions and props (they used real fur, real diamonds and real caviar, for chrissakes), it put forth and showcased the lavish, garish, more-is-more lifestyle that was aspired to by so many people at the time. Not Quite TV Guide, a parody of TV Guide, came up with a fictional nighttime soap called Supermarket, starring the cast of Dynasty - John Forsythe, Linda Evans and Joan Collins. The cast also included the biggest names in nighttime soaps then, as well as the biggest names in showbiz. Former Charlie's Angels Jaclyn Smith and Shelley Hack were also included. Jaclyn was Jackie, the eldest daughter of Forsythe's character, while Shelley was Shelly, a young designer with designs on Forsythe's character. I guess they were classy enough to be part of it.
