Shelley appeared in many sewing catalogs when she was a model. In 1971, she appeared on the cover and pages of the Simplicity School Catalog Fall/Winter catalog. On the opening page for the "Fashions With Pizzazz" feature spread, which featured every look - pants, skirts, shirts, etc - every young lady could make herself for that fashion season, she wore pattern no. 9525, a mini jumper and pants outfit. She wore it with a ribbed turtleneck top with long sleeves and fancy workman's boots. A floppy hat and natural makeup finished her look. Shelley looked fresh and beautiful.

Shelley starred in her third TV series Jack and Mike in 1986. It was about a married yuppie couple trying to balance career and married life. It was an especially hard adjustment for women at the time because, after the women's movement in the 1970s, more women had joined the workforce and were getting higher positions in companies which resulted in less time for their families. Jackie Shea, Shelley's character, was one them. A high-profile journalist in Chicago, Jackie had to learn how to balance her work and home life.

Shelley appeared on many Sears catalog issues from the 1960s to the 1970s. In 1974, she appeared on many spreads throughout the Sears Wish Book for the 1974 Christmas Season catalog. In the spread that featured must-have pieces at affordable prices, she modeled a Sleeveless Knit Pullover top. It was in a wide-ribbed style knit and had narrow ribbing around the V-neckline, armhole and waistband. She wore it over a plain white collared shirt with long sleeves and the Wish Book Value pants which had a fly-front and flared legs. Shelley looked sensational.

Sew Yourself A Classic A

Shelley appeared on many spreads for McCall's magazine during her Supermodel tenure. In the mag's January 1973 issue, she appeared in the spread called "Sew Yourself A Classic" where she modeled two of McCall's latest shirtdress patterns, now-and-future classics that could be worn from winter through late spring.

She wore McCall's Pattern no. 3482, a softened shirtdress. It was designed with a drawstring waist and a blouson top, which was perfect for figures that couldn't "take the severity of the man-tailored kind." Lightweight cotton corduroy was the fabric recommended; and Shelley's version was made from plaid-printed corduroy. Neutral-colored low-heeled pumps finished her look. In the pic, it looks like she's getting her other McCall's shirtdress ready.

Trackdown: Finding the Goodbar Killer, 1983

1983 was a landmark year for Shelley. It was the year she received critical praise for her work on the Martin Scorsese feature film The King of Comedy (with Robert De Niro) and the filmed-for-TV play Close Ties. It was the year she starred in Found Money alongside comedy greats Dick Van Dyke and Sid Caesar. It was the year she starred in her second TV series, the critically-praised Cutter to Houston with Alec Baldwin and Jim Metzler. And it was the year she did Trackdown: Finding the Goodbar Killer with industry veteran George Segal. Shelley star was rising pretty quickly by then.

Shelley appeared on many ads during her modeling days. In 1978, she appeared in an ad for Aris Gloves with the tagline "Get Yourself Together" and it featured Aris' latest line of Applaud Gloves and Christie Brinkley appeared in the ad along with Shelley. The gloves were the perfect finishing touch for any outfit during the cooler days of the year.

A Year Was Plenty

In February of 1980, it was reported that during the Charlie's Angels Valentine's Day Party at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, cards were handed out to Jaclyn Smith, Cheryl Ladd and David Doyle, inviting them to the fifth season of the TV series. And it was also reported that Shelley didn't get one and the news quickly spread.

But the truth is Shelley wasn't fired. She signed a one-year contract with the show which had a three or five-year option. According to Glamour magazine in May of 1980, "Shelley isn't being fired", the producers of the show said, "Actually, Shelley must decide whether she wants to continue with the show." It was probably why she didn't get one. But then according that same Glamour article, Shelley said, "I'm not sure whether my option is being picked up for the next season." Well, as everyone knows, it wasn't picked up. But then Shelley was okay with that, because, as she told TV Tales: Charlie's Angels in 2002, doing Angels for a year was already plenty for her.
