Shelley became Charlie's newest Angel in 1979, and she jumped from being THE Charlie Girl to becoming Charlie's latest Superstar Angel. As it was for all the Angels before her, she received a lot of attention from both the media and from fans. Her casting was even mentioned in the evening news - it was a huge deal. "I couldn't believe it. What was I doing in the evening news," she exclaimed at the time. When she arrived in St. Thomas at the Caribbean, where her first Charlie's Angels episode was going to be shot, she was greeted by the paparazzi. "When I got off the plane, there were maybe eight million paparazzi. I looked around for Sophia Loren. It was for me. I couldn't believe it," Shelley said astonished by the amount of Angel casting was getting. "I had press people crawling in my windows," she told E! in 2002.

Shelley appeared in many catalogs throughout her modeling career. One of them was JCPenney. She appeared in many issues of the department store's catalog from the '60s (when it was still called Penney's) until the '70s. She appeared in many spreads on the JCPenney Fall and Winter 1972 catalog.

In one spread called "Tailored," she modeled outfits with just the right tailoring - sleek pants and tops with a neat trim fit. She wore the Printed Knit Shirt over a pair of Wide-Waistband Double-Knit Pants. She also wore the Bias-Plaid Knit Tunic over a pair of Smooth-Draping Double-Knit Pants. For both looks she wore The Classic Wing-Tip Shoes. Shelley looked sensational in all of them.

After finishing her schooling, Shelley signed on full-time at her modeling agency, Ford Models Inc., and became one of the top models in the United States, booking countless fashion spreads, print and TV ads as well as magazine covers including Glamour, Mademoiselle and Vogue. In 1976, she jumped to Supermodel status via a Revlon commercial for Charlie Perfume. She was one of first batch of models  who was able to negotiate previously unheard of, lucrative and exclusive deals with giant cosmetics companies. The worldwide popularity she gained as THE Charlie Girl brought her to the attention of Aaron Spelling  who cast her in his hit series Charlie's Angels in 1979.

Shelley was busy with her acting career in the 1980s. In 1987, having wrapped up work with her third series Jack and Mike, she appeared on the pages of the July 1987 issue of the Los Angeles Times Magazine. The spread she appeared in was called Knit Knacks, and in it, she modeled cotton knits that were perfect for that summer - worn with a dash of her own personal style of course. Shelley was spectacular.

Shelley was one of the most visible Supermodels in the 1970s. She appeared on many covers of many major magazines. In 1972, Shelley appeared on the cover of the March 17 issue of Brigitte Mit Constanze, a German women's magazine which featured fashions, home styles and health. She also appeared inside the magazine, modeling the latest looks of the era.

A Commercial Before Going Back

Before going back to the Jack and Mike episode "Ready or Not," let's take a look at one of Shelley's most iconic commercials. Shelley was and always will be THE Quintessential Charlie Girl. She embodied all the ideals of the brand. She was independent, bright, chic and confident. She catapulted the brand (as well as herself) to iconic status when she began endorsing it. No wonder she was THE Charlie Girl for a very long time - for almost seven years, in fact. She appeared in many Charlie perfume print ads as well as many Charlie perfume commercials.

In the 1978 commercial for Charlie perfume, Shelley was flown to Paris and put on a speedboat headed for a floating party docked on the La Seine, in front of the Cathedral de Notre-Dame de Paris. She was assisted onboard and greeted by the captain. She then proceeded to the party, spraying Charlie perfume on her neck as she joined the guests. She passed by Mel Torme who was at the piano, singing the Charlie perfume jingle. Then she was lifted by male supermodel Matt Collins, put down on the bar and kissed on the cheek by Matt. A fabulously fabulous commercial.

For the commercial, Shelley was in fabulous black evening suit by Sam Originals. It was made up of a white blouse with a ruffled collar, yoke and wrists over a pair of black satin eveing trousers and topped with a black sequined evening jacket. A satin ribbon around the collar completed her look. Gold earrings and gold-detailed evening footwear finished her look. She wore the same outfit in the holiday version of the Charlie perfume ad for that year. Shelley looked utterly faaaabuloous.

Shelley appeared on many magazines throughout her modeling career. In 1975, she appeared on the pages of Lady's Circle magazine, in the spread called "Sew For Spring with Thrifty Lady's Circle Patterns." It said, "Your sewing machine can bring you close to the impossible dream of fashion for a farthing. She models a couple of of L.C. patterns. One of them was pattern no. 9454. It was a slimming side-wrap daytime dress that had a V-neck and diagonal closing. It brought style to any work day or club meeting. Shelley looked sensational in it.
