Shelley appeared in the long-running sports TV series The American Sportsman in May of 1981. She traveled to the Tiger Top Lodge in Chitwan Park, Nepal. Chitwan Park is Nepal's first national park and is a stronghold for the world-famous Nepal Tiger. Shelley participated in the darting and tagging of a 500-pound Nepal tiger. In 1984, Chitwan Park was granted the status of World Heritage Site.
The American Sportsman was one of the most highly-regarded sports series on television. It featured its hosts participating in various hunting/fishing expeditions as well as other outdoor recreational activities. It ran from 1965 to 1986 and was hosted by Joe Foss, then Grits Gresham and later, Curt Gowdy. Many celebrities participated in the show as well, including Shelley Hack. The series won an Emmy Award in 1981 for Outstanding Edited Sports Series.
