a promo pic of Shelley for Cutter to Houston, 1983
To cap off her busy year in 1983, Shelley joined the cast of the medical drama Cutter to Houston, playing a surgeon relegated to a small community hospital in the fictitious Texas town of Cutter that had a computer hookup to a big city hospital in Houston - for cases the facility couldn't handle. By then, the former Supermodel had starred in Charlie's Angels and had honed her acting skills on stage and got excellent reviews for her role on the big screen Martin Scorsese film The King of Comedy. Her upcoming TV movies were Found Money (previously titled Max and Sam) and Trackdown: Finding the Goodbar Killer costarring with Dick Van Dyke and Sid Caesar in the former and George Segal in the latter. She was one busy actress and couldn't say no to the opportunities that came her way.
