Quintessential Charlie Girl and Supermodel Shelley became Angel no. 5 in 1979 when she joined the cast of Charlie's Angels. Her character was Tiffany Welles, a classy Boston-bred policewoman who was the daughter of one of Charlie's oldest friends. The newest heavenly recruit came with the approval of not just executive producers Aaron Spelling and Leonard Goldberg, but also of incumbent Angels Jaclyn Smith and Cheryl Ladd. The interest in Charlie's newest Angel was so intense, that so many articles about her, as well as news features, came out and appeared around the world. "I couldn’t believe it. What was I doing in the evening news?" Shelley exclaimed at the time.

in Super Teen magazine,
March 1980
In March of 1980, Shelley appeared in the cover and in a writeup in Super Teen magazine. Super Teen magazine was one of the most popular magazines in the 1970s that catered to teenagers... the others being Teen Beat and Tiger Beat. Teen magazines were very popular during the 1960s up until the 1990s. The magazine usually featured teen idol/celebrity gossip, writeups on movies, music, dating and fashion. Posters of the current teen idols and celebrities were also a staple in these mags. Shelley (along with Olivia Newton-John and co-Angel Cheryl Ladd) was featured in a writeup called "Olivia, Cheryl & Shelley Teach You What They Know About Boys, Beauty & More!" It revealed the actresses' formula for success - hard work, dedication, and self-confidence. Although there were literally hundred of hopefuls for the role of Tiffany Welles in Charlie's Angels, Shelley still confidently auditioned and eventually won the role. Her self-confidence had also helped her override the nasty gossip and criticisms she undeservedly received after she won the role. The writeup said that a strong sense of self is most attractive and will help anyone win love and happiness.
