Shelley began modeling in late 1964. Her first covers for Glamour and Seventeen magazines came out simultaneously in November of 1964. In October of 1965, just almost a year after her first covers, she appeared on the pages of Seventeen magazine. In the spread called "Sew Up New Love-Notes Lace," she modeled a dress in the color of every girl's best note paper and made from the prettiest, most romantic lace designs. Charlie's Angels The Complete Series
will be released on Blu-ray this October

Charlie's Angels was one of the most phenomenally successful shows to ever come to the small screen. It's popularity and success can only be likened to other TV greats such as E.R., American Idol and more recently, Game of Thrones. This groundbreaking, Marvel-Studios-Avengers-big TV series was the very first female buddy-buddy show to hit the small screen. It also presented women as not just the fairer sex, but as strong and independent as well. The series ran for five seasons and went though six Angels all in all. The only male leads in the series were John Bosley, played by David Doyle, and Charles "Charlie" Townsend, whose face was never shown and was voiced by John Forsythe. David Ogden Stiers appeared in the pilot movie as liaison officer Scott Woodville - a sort of back up for the girls if they needed saving. When the show was picked up as a weekly series, the Woodville character was dropped as it was deemed that the girls were capable enough to save themselves. How's that for Girl Power?

Furry Parka

a closeup of Shelley from an ad for The American Fur Industry, 1976

Shelley appeared in an ad for The American Fur Industry back in 1976. The ad's tagline was "How Lucky to be Born a Woman," and Shelley modeled a parka of natural sheared beaver sides. Fur was a fashion staple in every best-dressed woman wardrobe for decades until the 1980s and 1990s when anti-fur campaigns began to gain ground. Campaigns and boycotts against fur clothing began getting so much media attention that wearing fur became a no-no. Animal rights organizations objected to the manner by which the garment was farmed; they objected to the killing of animals for the sake of fashion. Some animal activists even went as far as throwing red paint on fur coats worn by women in public.
