HAPPY NEW YEAR, WORLD! - Shelley appeared in Christmas versions of the Charlie perfume ad from 1978 up until 1981; but a New Years version, or any other occasion for that matter, was never made. However, a different version of the 1978/1979 Christmas ad was released - where Shelley was wearing an evening pants-ensemble by Sam Originals. Of course, striding alongside The ultimate Charlie Girl was Santa Claus. Shelley never looked so gorgeous.

French Writeup
Shelley's casting as the newest Charlie's Angel in 1979 made news all over the world. A French language writeup about her entitled "Shelley Hack: Un Ange Passe" or "Shelley Hack: Passes For Angel Duties" introduced the lovely young Charlie Girl to French-speaking fans. Shelley was coming in to fill Kate Jackson's empty slot on the show and fans all over the world were interested to know more about Charlie's newest cherub. It mentioned her success as a Supermodel and told fans about her 1978 film If Ever I See You Again.

Shelley appeared in the January 1971 issue of Simplicity Fashion News, a booklet featuring the latest fashion patterns from Simplicity. On one spread, she was photographed alongside teen superstar model Colleen Corby. She modeled patterns 9718, 9610 and 9597 - which all came together as one chic ensemble for 1971.
That Charlie Girl Smile
Shelley became world-famous in 1976 when she became The ultimate Charlie Girl. Her effortless class, innate chic-ness and unwavering self-confidence came through in the commercials and print ads for the brand. Her long-legged stride was not just fabulous to look at, it also sort of symbolized the huge stride being made by the women's liberation movement. But it was Shelley's smile that captured the imagination of the public. Her effervescent smile conveyed a “Yes, I’m independent, fabulous, happy and I have it all.” attitude which was just so much in sync with the times. Women needed to feel good about their new-found independence and Shelley's famous smile (second only to that of Farrah Fawcett's) said it all.

Kate Jackson appeared on the The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers in October 16, 1986 when she was currently doing the TV series Scarecrow and Mrs King. People magazine put her, along with fellow Charlie's Angels Farrah Fawcett and Jaclyn Smith, on their October 20, 1986 cover. The issue looked back on the hit series and updated readers on what all six actresses (Kate, Farrah, Jaclyn, Cheryl Ladd, Shelley Hack and Tanya Roberts) have been up to since the series ended.

It's interesting to note that Kate admitted to meeting Shelley Hack sometime in the '80s. When Joan asked her who she wasn't friendly with among all the six Angels, she said, "Well, I didn't know the two who came after me. I met Shelley Hack, and she was very nice." I guess what she meant was she met Shelley in passing but they're not close friends. Kate met Tanya Roberts in the Motor City Comic Con in June of 2004.

Wouldn't it be nice to see all of the TOS Angels being interviewed and photographed together? Well, sadly, sans Farrah Fawcett of course. But seeing Kate, Jaclyn, Cheryl, Shelley and Tanya together for one ultimate Angel reunion would make Angel fans all over the world go wild.
Dodging The Paparazzi
When Shelley became a superstar in 1979, she made it clear in interviews that she was a very private person and was protective of her family's privacy. She couldn't dodge the paparazzi though, and they were relentless. She and her fellow Charlie's Angels were among the most photographed celebrities of 1979.
That Stride
Shelley striding for Charlie perfume in 1978
Shelley's long-legged sexy stride remains one of the most memorable images of the 1970s. It was used to its full advantage in those iconic Charlie perfume ads she made. It was sort of symbolic of the strides being made by the women's liberation movement at the time. And everyone wanted to stride like Shelley, the fabulous Charlie Girl.

Merry Christmas!!!
Shelley in the 1981 Christmas version of the Charlie Perfume ad
MERRY CHRISTMAS, WORLD - Shelley appeared in Christmas versions of the Charlie perfume ad from 1978 up until 1981. The ad featured her striding that Charlie Girl stride alongside the season's most popular character, Santa Claus. Of course, as THE Charlie Girl, Shelley was dressed to the most glamorous hilt - as the season always demands. In the 1981 version, an artwork version of Shelley was used, but as always, she was glammed up for a night out in town. She again wore a Victorian-inspired ruffled blouse, but this time, it was black, sheer and sexy. Instead of trousers, she wore a pair of evening clam-diggers, the latest trend at the time. A pair of matching slingback heels, a pair of festive over-sized button earrings and a radiant effervescent smile finished her look. As always, Shelley was downright gorgeous.

Screaming at a Hero Sandwich
Shelley told one reporter back in 1986, after returning from filming The Stepfather in Canada, how she helped a boy in Vancouver get over the harmful effects of another horror flick. She invited the boy on the set and let him watch as she screamed in front of a camera while looking at a grip eating a hero sandwich. Any boy would have gotten over his fear after that. Shelley was such a sweetheart for helping the boy out.

Simply Darling
Shelley was simply darling on the cover of Simplicity Pattern No. 9472 back in 1971. She modeled a dog-ear collared daytime gown that could also be sewn as a dress or a blouse. The pattern package came with a tissue lesson chart on how to apply an invisible zipper. And Shelley looked so young and so fresh in her outfit.
Gorgeous in Red
Shelley posed for a lot of publicity pictures back in 1979 an 1980 when she became a Charlie's Angel. In one of them, she was in the red outfit she wore in the CA episode "Three For The Money." The photographer had her recline on a matching red sofa with a come-hither look. Shelley was gorgeous and the photo brought out Shelley's beautiful blue eyes.
Jackie and Mike
Tom Mason and Shelley Hack in a publicity pic for Jack and Mike, 1986
Shelley's third foray into series TV was Jack and Mike, where she played Jackie Shea, a married yuppie who worked for a newspaper. Her husband, played by Tom Mason, was Mike Brennan, a successful restauranteur who owned three hip restaurants in Chicago where the couple lived. The show came right after Moonlighting and received decent ratings but was cancelled after only one season despite a few raves from some critics. Let's hope Shelley decides to return to series TV. Her fans sorely miss her.
Setting the Tone
Shelley in a French ad for Charlie Hit Parade, 1980
In 1980, Shelley appeared in a French-language ad promoting the latest Charlie Hit Parade colors. The Charlie Collection came up with new hit colors for that year - namely Jazzy Lilac, Bongo Berry, Punk Pink, Boogie Woogie Blue, Rose Sonata, Be Bop Grape, Rock 'N Roll Red, Fantasia Plum and Keyboard Curry. In addition, Charlie Hit Parade was also a musical album that compiled a set of recordings recommended by Charlie for the Charlie Girl in everyone. The French-language ad promoting the latest Charlie Hit Parade colors proclaimed "Charlie Hit Parade, des couleurs qui donnent le ton! La senteur no 1 Revlon" which translates to "Charlie Hit Parade, colors that set the tone! From Revlon's no. 1 scent." The ad featured Shelley tinkling the ivories as her Charlie perfume ad co-star, renowned American cabaret singer and pianist Bobby Short, looked on. In her strapless scarlet number, Shelley looked absolutely sensational.

No Dumb Blonde
an article about Shelley from TV Week, July 1979
Many articles about Shelley came out upon the announcement of her casting on Charlie's Angels. She was already a supermodel by then - famous for her Charlie perfume commercials and print ads. But as many found out, this blonde was no dumb blonde. She obtained a degree in history from prestigious Smith College and studied archeology in Sydney, Australia. And not only was she well-educated, she was smart with her money as well. She bought a 224-acre farm in a rural part of New York State with her earnings, using it as a weekend retreat - away from the hustle and bustle of city life. It seems Charlie got lucky with this one.
The Angel and the Soap Superstar
In 1985, former Charlie's Angels star Shelley appeared in the TV movie Kicks. With her in the teleflick was Soap Superstar Anthony Geary. The film was about a couple brought together by one common interest - a need to live life on the edge. But the how far were they willing to go to fulfill that need? The film has been released in VHS format. Lets hope the DVD version will follow soon.

In one pic, Shelley wore a "free-fall caftan" from Greek Island Ltd. Underneath it, she donned the "wee-est bikini" of the season by Monika Tilley for Elon. It showed off her fabulously long and shapely gams. A Don Kline sun hat and Ruza's bamboo bangles finished her sexy, sensational look. In another pic, Shelley wore a Don Kline outfit consisting of a bolero and camisole combo-top over a pair of billowy pants - a winning look for the summer of 1978. A Don Kline hat, a necklace by Greek Island Ltd., bracelets by Red Cobra and footwear by Seven Stars finished her look. Elegant tassels were added to further enhance her beachy outfit. Shelley looked divine. In yet another pic, Shelley wore a "sports hooded cotton velour blouson" and "roomy shorts" - both by Ralph Lauren. Next to her was a duffel bag, a souvenir from Eastern Airlines, the airline that flew Shelley to beautiful Bermuda for the shoot.

MERRY CHRISTMAS, WORLD - Shelley appeared in Christmas versions of the Charlie perfume ad from 1978 up until 1981. A pair of shiny black satin slacks, two-toned evening heels and chunky glam earrings finished her look. The ad first appeared on December of 1978. But it seems Shelley became so busy with Charlie's Angels the year after that the ad ran again on December of 1979.
Girl Talk
A promo pic for Vanities entitled Girl Talk
Shelley starred- alongside Family Ties' Meredith Baxter and Smallville's Annette O'Toole - in the stage play Vanities back in 1981. The play was filmed for HBO's Standing Room Only and was Shelley's first attempt at stage acting. Shelley made the gutsy move to do a play right after her stint on Charlie's Angels and was successful. The play was a hit and Shelley astounded critics - she received glowing reviews for her performance. Looking back, if Shelley's acting was actually fine on Death Car on the Freeway (pre-Angels), on her Love Boat guest stint (during Angels) and on Vanities (post-Angels), how could she have been so bad on Charlie's Angels?
See & Sew Gorgeous
Shelley wearing Butterick's See & Sew pattern 5780
Shelley appeared in several pattern packages for Butterick's See & Sew in 1977. In one, she modeled pattern number 5780 - a blouse/sweater top that could be worn on its own or over something else. And Shelley was breathtakingly gorgeous in the package pic.
Go, girl! Smile that smile!
Fall Fashions 3
Shelley appeared in the September 1975 issue of Good Housekeeping magazine. In a spread called "The Best of Fall Fashions," she modeled fashions to sew, crochet and knit by Simplicity Patterns. The pictures were taken in The Old Village at the Historic Towne of Smithville in New Jersey, a restoration town "where life is lived as it was circa 1800." And Shelley looked positively lovely in the latest fall fashions for 1975.
Shelley modeled Simplicity pattern 7053 - a "peasant patterned long dirndl and quilted vest, in wool challis by Liberty of London" and pattern 6625 - "a puffed sleeve blouse, sewn in Landau's wool jersey."

It's Darn Good
Shelley starred in the 1984 TV movie Single Bars, Single Women which, as one writer put it, was "darn good." The film explored the singles scene for women - post women's liberation. Women had finally come out on their own, so the rules of dating were changing... fast. No longer in need of escorts and chaperones, women could now go bar-hopping alone to meet the men they wanted to meet. Women finally had a voice and a choice.
