Shelley was hounded by the press and the paparazzi in 1979 when she was cast as the newest Angel in hit TV series Charlie's Angels. The paparazzi followed her and her fellow Angels Jaclyn Smith and Cheryl Ladd to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands where they were filming her debut episode "Love Boat Angels". Shelley said in one interview that she was surprised by the press "bonanza" that came after she got the part. She was surprised by the amount of interest her casting generated. Shelley became a Hollywood superstar before her first Angels episode even aired.
