Shelley's second foray into series TV was Cutter to Houston, a medical drama that was set in the small fictional town of Cutter, Texas. She played Dr. Beth Gilbert, an ambitious surgeon who saw Cutter as a stepping stone to a big career in a major hospital in Houston, Texas. Her co-stars were Jim Metzler who played Dr. Andy Fenton, a GP, and Alec Baldwin who played Dr. Hal Wexler, an internist. When their facility encountered problems they couldn't handle, they got in touch with a big city hospital in Houston - via a computer link up or helicopter (hence the series title).

In the second episode of the series entitled "In the Eye of the Hurricane", Andy's black-sheep brother comes into town, causing friction between the siblings. At the same time, a patient, in need of a particular blood type, has to wait for the blood to be flown in. But then a fast-approaching hurricane is in danger of jeopardizing the much-needed shipment of blood. Jay Baker, Philece Sampler and Rhonda Aldrich guest starred.
