In the 1990s, Shelley slowly transitioned from being an actress to becoming a political activist and producer. She became active in numerous organizations that put women in the forefront. She also delved into political fund-raising and even intended to run for office herself but was disqualified due to a technicality. She later established SHMC - Shelley Hack Media Consultancy - and would go into war-torn countries and help them establish democracy through media, which was often done with the help of televised political debates.
