Shelley was THE Charlie Girl from 1976 to 1982. She was the quintessential image of the Revlon brand - gorgeous, sexy and young. She appeared in many print ads for the brand - as well as commercials. In 1980, she appeared in an Olympic games-inspired version.

The 1980 Summer Olympics was one of the more controversial ones. It was held in Moscow in the Soviet Union. Sixty-five countries boycotted the games because of the Soviet war in Afghanistan, dwindling the participants to just 80 nations. But it was also the first time the games were staged in Eastern Europe, the first time it was held in a socialist country, as well as the first time it was held in a Slavic language-speaking country.

The 1980 Winter Olympics was held stateside though, in Lake Placid, New York. It was the second time it was held there since 1932. There were 38 events involving 10 disciplines - alpine skiing, ice hokey, biathlon, luge, bobsleigh, Nordic combined, cross-country skiing, ski jumping, figure skating and speed skating.

Charlie perfume came out with an Olympic games-inspired commercial in 1980. Charlie perfume was selected by the United States Olympic Committee as an official fragrance; so a Charlie commercial with gorgeous Shelley cheering American athletes was released. It had Shelley Charlie-striding around, passing by Olympic athlete after Olympic athlete approving, applauding and cheering them on. "Let's Go, America!" she shouts at the end of the commercial. (note: Shelley wore high heels during the 1st half of the commercial; but after the shot of the weightlifter, she changed to flats/sneakers so she could run with the girls at the end of the commercial.)
