Fame and Eccentricity

Shelley during the filming of the Charlie's Angels
episode "Angel Hunt," 1979

Shelley became Charlie's Angel no.5 in 1979, during the 4th season of the phenomenal hit TV series. She was already known to the public as THE Charlie Girl from the many Revlon Charlie perfume commercials and print ads she had appeared in. She brought in fresh interest to the TV series which had experienced a significant dip in the ratings the season before; her casting, as well as her Supermodel status, brought in much publicity for the show. Suddenly thrust into the rock star arena, Shelley was determined to keep her head on her shoulders and her private life private. "Fame," she said' "could make you an eccentric." She added, "People will cater to your quirks. So without realizing it, you could start cultivating quirks you would not otherwise have had. And pretty soon, you would be a full-blown eccentric." Shelley kept her feet on the ground.
