Shelley appeared on many different catalogs during her modeling career. One of them was Spiegel which was a direct marketing retailer that sent their buyers to Parisian fashion shows in order to check out the latest fashion trends and introduce them to the American market. In 1972, she appeared on various spreads on the Spiegel Spring and Summer 1972 catalog. In Young Expressions section, she wore various outfits that were on trend during that season. She wore The Gingham Check Revival, an old-fashioned dress in gingham checks that gathered a soft skirt under a gently smocked waistline. It had a scoopy neckline that tied to a bow in front and bell-shaped cuffs that flared from elastic-bonded sleeves. Shelley looked fabulous.

Stage Triumphs

Shelley was very active in the stage scene back in the early 1980s. She appeared in filmed-for-TV play Elizabeth Diggs' Close Ties. It premiered on The Entertainment Channel in March of 1983. Directed by Arwin Brown, it was about the struggles of a New England family coping with the senility of the clan's matriarch. Shelley played Anna, one of the matriarch's daughters. As with her earlier stage performance in Jack Heifner's Vanities, she got glowing reviews; and she impressed her critics. Her performances in both plays were proof that, yes, she could act.

Angels as Bond Girls

Angels considered for Bond Girl duties

Three of Charlie's heavenly Angels from the original series were considered for Bond Girl duties. Tanya Roberts was considered for the role of geologist Stacey Sutton for the 1985 Bond flick A View To A Kill; and she landed the part. Long-time Bond producer Cubby Broccoli saw Tanya in The Beastmaster and immediately wanted her for the 1985 Bond installment which starred Roger Moore. She was in Africa shooting Sheena: Queen of the Jungle and Broccoli asked her to fly to Los Angeles for a day to meet with him. When she got there, she was offered the part and the rest is history.

But earlier than that, in 1978, Cubby Broccoli was looking for Bond's newest leading lady for the film Moonraker. Jaclyn Smith was the first choice; but she had to decline the role because filming the movie would conflict with her Charlie's Angels filming schedule (also, she might have objected to the eventual suggestive name of the character, Dr. Holly Goodhead.) That same year, Shelley Hack was already a Supermodel and was known all over the world as THE Charlie Girl from the Revlon Charlie commercials and print ads. Shelley was at the height of her modeling success and Hollywood was taking notice. It was reported that Shelley was one of the leading contenders for the part and Cubby Broccoli talked to her about testing for the role of Holly. But a chance encounter on a plane between Lois Chiles and the film's director Lewis Gilbert resulted in Chiles eventually winning the role. Shelley appeared in the another Aaron Spelling hit series during her year as one of Charlie's Angels. She was a guest star on the 3rd season episode of The Love Boat called "Dumb Luck/Tres Amigos/Hey, Jealous Lover" which was initially aired on March 15, 1980. She played nuclear physicist and professor Carol Ketay, Julie's friend, who couldn't get a date because she was just too brainy. Julie told Carol that her brains intimidated most men and advised her to dumb herself down a bit for the cruise. After giving Carol a makeover, they went ahead with Julie's plan and Carol found a steady date in Chris (played by Kevin Tighe). But just before the cruise was about to end, Chris breaks up with Carol because he thinks she's too dumb. So Julie tells Carol to show Chris how brainy she really was and the two end up happily in each others arms.

"Dumb Luck/Tres Amigos/Hey, Jealous Lover," 1980

The role of Professor Carol Ketay fit Shelley to a T and she played her exceptionally well. She was also drop dead gorgeous and the outfits she wore were Supermodel glamorous and timeless. She was at the height of her Angel fame when the episode came out and her performance in it is one of the most memorable of that Love Boat season - she was hilarious. In fact, Shelley came in at no. 7 on the list of the "Best Guest Stars on The Love Boat" as listed by ranker.com in 2014. (It's a mystery why people at the time kept saying she couldn't act.) Jayne Meadows, James Gregory, Kevin Tighe and child star Ronnie Scribner were also in the episode. Shelley appeared in many issues of Vogue during her tenure as a Supermodel. In the mag's October 1974 issue, she appeared on the sexy spread called "What to Wear Under Black at Night". In it, she modeled sumptuous lingerie that women could wear underneath their fabulous black evening outfits. She modeled 1. a two-piece black satin bra and bikini set by Van Raalte of Antron III, 2. a sexy slip with an all-lace top a lace hem by Gossard Artemis, 3. a satiny black body stocking with touches of lace on top by Sensuale by Bali, 4. a sexy sheer black lace halter bra and a black lace bikini, both by Formfit Rogers and 5. the bra everyone was looking for - the lightweight, comfortable strapless bra- by Vassarette which had thin lace on the edges and was perfect underneath the little black dress. The pics were taken by her then boyfriend photographer Steen Svensson. Shelley was Supermodel gorgeous.

No Need to Audition

It's been called one of the great horror movies of the 1980s. The Stepfather was released in June of 1987 and has since become a cult classic. Directed by Joseph Ruben, it starred Terry O'Quinn in the title role, as Jerry Blake, a man who had the knack of marrying into the "perfect" family and then killing the family off when he deemed that they're not perfect after all. Shelley Hack played Susan Maine, the woman who marries Jerry and is willing look past the cracks she's beginning to notice. Jill Schoelen played Stephanie, Susan's daughter by her first marriage. Stephanie doesn't like Jerry, finds him weird and is determined to find out what he is hiding.

Shelley didn't have to audition for the role. Director Joseph Ruben thought she perfect was for the role. "Shelley didn't have to test," said Ruben, "Shelley got it really off King of Comedy, because I thought she was just so believable and natural and easy. She doesn't strain on camera. And I was just knocked out by her in that movie. It was again an easy choice." He had no second thoughts about casting her in the film. But upon reading the script, Shelley initially thought Susan was a silly character (How come she never noticed what a creep Jerry is?) But as she thought more deeply about it, she realized that many people were like Susan. Many people chose to overlook the obvious, blatant flaws in their partners. So she did the film and got excellent reviews for her performance.

Shelley appeared on many Simplicity pattern catalogs, brochures and packaging during the 1960s and 1970s. The Simplicity Pattern Company is the leading manufacturer of sewing patterns and sewing pattern guides which are distributed throughout the world. They have been manufacturing sewing patterns since 1927 and have allowed fashionistas on a budget and sewing aficionados to create clothes in a reliable manner. In 1973, she appeared on the cover of pattern package 5520. It contained patterns and instructions for creating a mini-jumper or a tunic and pants ensemble. It also showed fashionistas how to match plaid, striped and one-way design fabrics while creating the outfit. Shelley finished her tunic and pants outfit with a pair of matching open-toed high-heeled footwear, a pair of fun bracelets and a necklace with a fancy pendant. Shelley looked fabulous as usual.
