Shelley painting her Charlie Girl persona in 1978
Shelley was THE Charlie Girl from the Charlie perfume ads from 1976 to 1982. She was one of the first models to sign an exclusive contract with a giant cosmetics company; consequently, catapulting her to Supermodel status in the modeling biz. Modeling contracts gave models the opportunity to make huge amounts of money (in the millions) for themselves (as well as the companies that get them). Such contracts eventually became the aspiration of every model wanting to make it big in the business. Until this very day, every model's benchmark for success is landing a lucrative modeling contract; and of course, making it on the cover of Vogue.
