In 1979, Shelley joined the cast of Charlie's Angels and became a Hollywood superstar overnight. Her face appeared on virtually every magazine in the world and was even mentioned in the evening news. "I couldn't believe it. What was I doing in the evening news?" Shelley exclaimed. When the cast and crew of Charlie's Angels arrived in St. Thomas, at the Caribbean, Shelley was described, surprised, "When I got off the plane, there were maybe eight million paparazzi. I looked around for Sophia Loren. It was for me. I couldn't believe it." In 2000, she said on Jane Pauley's show Time and Again, "I was totally unprepared for the press 'bonanza' that followed." She told E! in 2002, "I was surprised by the amount of attention. She added, "I had press people crawling in my window."
