Put It Together For Fall

a closeup of Shelley
from Simplicity Fashion News,
Sep 1971

Shelley appeared in the September 1971 issue of the booklet Simplicity Fashion News. She appeared in the spread called "How To Put It All Together For Fall" which featured fashions in the "new 'denim-looking' fabrics" - blue suede-cloth and printed sail-cloth. Shelley modeled Simplicity patterns 9523 (a blouse) and 9566 (a bolero and mini-skirt), both in the denim-like fabrics. A unique belt, a pair of matching knee socks and clogs finished her look. Shelley looked so much in fash for the coming cold months.

THE Charlie Girl

that included the brand's makeup and nail care line

Shelley first became famous for being THE Charlie Girl, the unforgettable Supermodel from those iconic Revlon Charlie ads and commercials in the 1970s. A slew of models came before her, but it was Shelley's image that catapulted the brand to worldwide recognition. The image of Shelley strutting around the world -  "gorgeous sexy and young", free-spirited independent and confident, fabulous single and happy - sparked a nerve in women all over. Every woman wanted to be that free and that fabulous. Shelley THE Charlie Girl is an icon in itself.

Great Reviews

Shelley starred in the Jack Heifner play Vanites back in 1981, right after her stint on Charlie's Angels. Filmed for HBO's Standing Room Only series, the play was about the interrelationships of three women from the time they were in high school to their womanhood in the 1960s. Co-starring with Shelley were Meredith Baxter-Birney and Annette O'Toole. Shelley got great reviews for her portrayal of Mary, the free-thinker of the bunch. She even impressed her biggest detractor during her Charlie's Angels days Ed Lakso with her performance.

Look SPECtacular

Shelley appeared in the spread called "Look Spectacular in Bold Prescription Specs" in the March 1972 issue of Woman's Day magazine. The spread explained to readers how to chose frames and lenses that would be helpful as well as flattering to their eyes and face. The makeup on Shelley and the rest of the models was done by legendary makeup artist Way Bandy. Shelley modeled the frame design called Capote in crystal (it came in light and dark tortoise as well).
