Shelley became Charlie's Angel no. 5 in 1979. After a long search, producer Aaron Spelling thought she had the right bubble and intelligence that would suit the new Angel. Plus, she was a Supermodel, recognized by everyone as the fabulous Charlie Girl. Ed Lakso, a writer/producer on the show, "Believe it or not, the headline, "Charlie Girl becomes the new Charlie's Angel," carried a lot of weight."
