In the 1980s, Shelley was often seen and captured by the paparazzi attending events around Hollywood as well as overseas. In 1988, Shelley was spotted and photographed attending an event in London, at The Groucho Club. The Groucho Club is a private members' club. It is based in London, England, and is located on Dean Street in Soho. Many of the club members come from the publishing, media, entertainment and arts industries. The club's name is in reference to actor/comedian Groucho Marx who famously said that he didn't want to be a member of any club that would have him.
