Fresh Beauty

Shelley in a publicity pic from around 1989

Shelley was one of the Supermodels of the 1970s. She was one of the handful of models who constantly appeared in magazine layouts and ads throughout the decade. She was also one of the highest paid of the era, eventually becoming one of the first models to land an exclusive and lucrative modeling contract with a giant cosmetic company - a real Supermodel. Her look wasn't overtly sexy and seductive; but rather, she projected a clean, wholesome, all-American kind of sexiness which was so much in-demand at the time.

Gleamier

Shelley appeared in many ads for Napier in the mid-1970s (The Napier Co. is an American jewelry manufacturing company that specialized in fashion-forward and affordable jewelry designs). In the ad "Napier is Gleamier", she modeled a bracelet that came in either a golden and silvery finish. Shelley looked sensational in it.

In Nepal

Shelley appeared in the long-running sports TV series The American Sportsman in May of 1981. She traveled to the Tiger Top Lodge in Chitwan Park, Nepal. Chitwan Park is Nepal's first national park and is a stronghold for the world-famous Nepal Tiger. Shelley participated in the darting and tagging of a 500-pound Nepal tiger. In 1984, Chitwan Park was granted the status of  World Heritage Site.

No Fun Like Snow Fun!

Shelley began modeling in late 1964. She appeared on the cover and pages of Glamour magazine November that year. That same month, she appeared on the cover of Seventeen magazine (with teen Supermodel Colleen Corby). Inside, she appeared in her first ever spread for Seventeen. It featured fashions for frolicking in the snow.

In the one called "No Fun Like Snow Fun!", she modeled two fabulous looks for the ski slopes that season. She wore a snowy white cowl-collared sweater over a pair of water-repellent stretch pants - both by Sportsmaker. She also wore a textured sweater with a shirty neckline by Miss Gotham, ski-happy jeans by Levi Strauss and Collage mittens. And, of course, Shelley looked sensational in both looks.

Tempting Triple Layer Look

a closeup of Shelley from a 1972 JCPenney ad

Shelley appeared in many ads for JCPenney from the late '60s to the '70s. In one 1972 ad, she wore the Tempting Triple Layer Look, a getup made up of three pieces that was a great addition to any woman's wardrobe. She wore the flowered long-sleeved shirt over a billowy palazzo skirt and topped it off with the ruffled-sleeve shrink sweater. A matching modified skull cap and high-heeled footwear finished her look. Shelley looked ready for the 1972-73 fashion season.

Demarchelier Model 2

a closeup of Shelley from a 1978 pic by Patrick Demarchelier

Shelley was one of the highest paid models in the 1970s. She posed for many prominent fashion photographers during the time. One of them was Patrick Demarchelier, who took pics of Shelley for an article about her Mademoiselle magazine in 1978. In one of the pics, Shelley was photographed in a casual getup made up of a crinkle cotton camp shirt in butter and waist-wrapping pants in olive - both by Liz Claiborne. A pair of calfskin sandals by Selby and a Makins hat finished her look. Of course, Shelley looked chic as usual.
