Shelley's first leading lady role was Jennifer Corly in the 1978 film If Ever I See you Again. She hardly auditioned for the role. When she walked in to read, she was immediately cast. She was also asked to wear her glasses on the film - which she did throughout it. The film didn't do well at the box office but has since become somewhat of a cult favorite as it was later shown many times on cable TV.
