In 1983, Shelley was working hard on living down the image she acquired when she became a Charlie's Angel back in 1979 (In fact, all the Angels were doing the exact same thing, as they all ended up typecast after the series was cancelled). By then, Shelley had successfully tackled stage via Vanities and Close Ties. She also received great reviews for her work on Martin Scorsese's The King of Comedy; and was soon to start filming her second TV series Cutter to Houston.
