As soon Shelley was cast as Charlie's newest Angel in 1979, rumors began to circulate that Jaclyn Smith and Cheryl Ladd were shocked and angered by the casting of Shelley. In order to dispel the rumors, the two ladies asked Aaron Spelling and Len Goldberg to throw a party for the TV critics of America in order to introduce them to Shelley and show that the three of the were getting along. After all, Jackie and Cheryl had a say in the choice of the new Angel; and both of them liked Shelley very much.
