Shelley in a 1976 Charlie Perfume ad
Shelley became THE Charlie Perfume Girl in 1976. There were a slew of other girls before her, but it was Shelley's image that stuck and that was emulated by the women of the era. She had this air of confidence about her, this fabulousness about her that struck a chord and that inspired millions of women (and men) around the world. "The Charlie audition came after I graduated," she recalled. "After the tryout, a friend picked me up for a weekend in the country and I told him, 'I'm going to get this ad. And I think it’s going to be a big deal.'" And sure enough, it was. Shelley signed one of the first exclusive modeling contracts and became one of the Supermodels of the era.
