Shelley played Dr. Beth Gilbert in her sophomore attempt at series TV, Cutter to Houston. She played an ambitious surgeon from Chicago who didn't like being assigned to small town Cutter because she dreamt of becoming a surgeon in big city Houston. Shelley said, "When I was preparing for this role, I spent time with a woman surgeon and watched operations and, generally, tried to find out as much as I could about being a doctor." The experience of seeing a lot of ill people upset Shelley because, as she surmised, she was wasn't prepared for the emotional impact the medical profession brought with it. She now understood the need for doctors to build a protective wall to insulate themselves from the emotional strain their profession brings.

Shelley appeared on many catalogs throughout her modeling career. She appeared in Aldens 1971 Spring and Summer Book of Big Ideas wearing the latest trend, dresses for those action-filled days. The sporty style was on the rise and many clothes manufacturers  were jumping on the bandwagon. Aldens came up with their own version of the look and Shelley showed readers how to wear them.

Shelley wore the T-Shirting look, a sporty dress that could be worn during those action-filled days. It was a stripe-printed dress with a difference, diagonal neck zips. It had an oval-shaped neck and raglan sleeves. It came in red and white or navy and white - which Shelley wore. A simple brooch finished her look. With her short-crop wig and Alden's swinging transistor radio in hand, Shelley looked ready for those sporty action-filled days.

Shelley was a very busy model in the 1970s, appearing on many magazine and catalog spreads and covers. In 1971, she appeared on the pages of Seventeen magazine's April issue. The issue dubbed as "Super Scenics USA" was a special travel issue and it featured places to go to, food to eat and, of course, what to wear on the summer of 1971.

In the spread called "Dig Those Denims in New Mexico,", Shelley wore a denim look perfect for wearing to those archaeological digs in Albuquerque or the railroads at Santa Fe. She wore classic denim overalls by Time and Place zapped with a blossom applique over a T-shirt of rayon and cotton knit. A gaucho hat by Betmar finished her look. Shelley looked ready to get her hands dirty.

Shelley Hack starred in her third TV series Jack and Mike in 1986. The series was initially titled Jackie O'Shea and she was going to play the title role, a woman journalist's adventures who had a supportive husband waiting at home. Eventually, it was retitled Our Kind of Town and the husband was given a bigger role. When it aired, it was retitled Jack and Mike, with both title characters getting equal billing.

Shelley was THE Charlie perfume girl from 1976 to 1982. In 1981, Charlie by Revlon had a promotional campaign in the UK. Charlie apparel and makeup could be purchased by anyone for just £2.99 with every purchase of any Charlie product. It was Charlie's treat to customers for that summer season. Of course, Shelley appeared in the advertisements for the promotional campaign. And, of course, Shelley was gorgeous in the advertisements

Quite a Whirl

Shelley became Charlie's Angel no. 5 in 1979. She was already a Supermodel when she was cast; and the fact that she was the spokesmodel for Charlie by Revlon boosted her chances in landing the part. The headline "Charlie Girl becomes Charlie's newest Angel" was playing around in Aaron Spelling's mind when he was considering her. "Yesterday, I was a schnook, and today I can't get across the street" is how Shelley described her sudden rise to superstardom. "It has been quite a whirl," she said.

Shelley appeared in many sewing catalogs when she was a model. In 1971, she appeared on the cover and pages of the Simplicity School Catalog Fall/Winter catalog. In the spread called "The Campus Color Spree," she modeled color-zinged fashion separates that could be worn around any school campus.

She wore pattern no. 9525, a mini-jumper and pants ensemble; but Shelley only modeled the mini-jumper. It had a back zipper and suspenders that fastened to the front with hook-up closures. It could be made using a variety of fabrics, and Shelley's was a plaid fabric. A black turtleneck sweater and black leggings completed her ensemble. A matching skull cap and silver military dog tags finished her look. Shelley looked young, up-to-the-minute and ready to hit those 1971 campus grounds.
