Catalog Modeling

Shelley in a spread from a Montgomery Ward catalog from the 70s

Shelley appeared in many catalogs when she was modeling during the 1960s and 1970s - one of them was Montgomery Ward. She appeared in many of Wards catalogs. Catalogs usually wanted the "ideal" woman (tall, slender, wholesome and beautiful) to model their clothes. Plus, they wanted models who could make their clothes look good and sell them. Fashion catalog modeling was more lucrative than fashion editorial modeling (for, let's say, Vogue, Elle, Glamour, etc) because it usually required more pictures and took up more of the model's time (it sometimes took weeks) per job. Many of the Supermodels of the '70s delved into catalog modeling too - such as Lauren Hutton, Karen Graham and Beverly Johnson, just to name a few.
