In the 1990s, Shelley was seen many times with her husband director Harry Winer attending awards shows and charity events. She regularly attended benefits, Hollywood shindigs and political events at the time. Eventually, her focus shifted from being in front of the camera to being behind the camera, as she slowly morphed into a political media consultant to pre- and post-conflict countries, helping them establish democracy thru media.She began in Bosnia in 1997 and then worked extensively in the Balkans and Western Asia.
