screen captures of Shelley
from the pilot episode of Cutter to Houston, 1983
Shelley's second TV series was Cutter to Houston in 1983. She had triumphed on stage with plays like Vanities and Close Ties; as well as in film with Martin Scorsese's The King of Comedy (which she starred in with Robert De Niro). She had finished work with George Segal in Trackdown: Finding the Goodbar Killer; as well as Dick Van Dyke and Sid Caesar in Found Money. She had enough experience to tackle her role as sawbones Dr. Beth Gilbert in her new TV series. But even though her acting had significantly improved, the series went through a bumpy ride and was cancelled before it could find an audience (sleeper hits were unheard of at the time).
